I am happy that its Friday.  I am Happy that its warm outside.  This Sunday will be 70 degrees here in the DC area.

Today’s Topic:

Old Hollywood Glam

I wanted to give you guys the heads up that I have had a talk with my Boss.  I asked her if I could have all of next week off.  That’s right, I won’t be doing any posts until after Christmas.  I hope you enjoy today’s post.

I just finished reading a very interesting article in Vanity Fair Magazine.  It was the July 2013 issue with some ugly guy on the cover – see below.

Vanity Fair Cover

Is he hot or what!  Okay so in this magazine was an article/mini biography about the life and times of Ava Gardner.  What a great story.  This woman lived a full life.  Besides the fact that she was married 3 times, First to Mickey Rooney, then Artie Shaw and finally Frank Sinatra, she was a Hollywood starlet who was besties with Lana Turner.

Apparently when Ava was married to Frank Sinatra, they made a vow that they would NEVER do any tell all books.  When Frank’s career hit an all time low and he was broke as hell, he was approached by a big magazine that would pay him tons of money to do an autobiography.  He declined.

Years later in 1972 I guess Ava decided to hell with it, and decided to work with Peter Evans to do a ghosted autobiography.  Frank got wind of it and sued Peter and the BBC for mentioning his name associated with mob ties.

What I really admire about Ava was that she was very candid in this interview with Peter about all the details.  Apparently Frank was an amazing lover.  Uh, that doesn’t surprise me.  She went on to say that Mickey Rooney was a favorite with all the ladies because he had a big (oh my gosh Ava) I can’t believe you honey.  I mean she really spills the beans you guys.  I don’t know about you, but these are what make autobiographies interesting to me.  I mean if you have lived life to the fullest and want to tell about it, then tell ALL of it.

Whatever.  I love to read and if I’m not reading personal development books, I like to read about people’s lives.  Fascinating, I guess.

Oh, if your interested…this article was an excerpt from the book that was released this summer called “Ava Gardner: The Secret Conversations” by Peter Evans and Ava Gardner

What a story.  I want to get this book at the library and read it.  If you want to know more, let me know.

Now, on to the fashion….

I found this Ralph Lauren laced sheath dress at Marshall’s.  It’s very conservative for me, but yet a little glam too.  Maybe cause I’m in it – Hahahaha.  Not kidding

  1. Would love to see your take on jewelry, Diamond. You’ve developed quite an eye for what works.

  2. I read that book Diamond. I also am so in awe of old hollywood. My favorite of all time would have to be the love affair between Liz and Dick as they were called. We had a tornado and were out of electricity for days, seemed like months. I bought their biographies, autobiographies, and pieced it all together. Have you seen her personal big book with all her jewelry? Jeanette, I wanted to send you one, did I ever do that? I just adore her stories. And then I read when she was donating to her aids charity, suddenly she just pulled off the ring Richard Burton had given her, a beautiful emerald if I remember right, and said she loved it, she loved him, but the charity needed it and jewelry is only for us to keep while we are here as if we are their safe keepers, then share. I love her, I love your style and stories Diamond.

  3. love it on you! Only one thing missing. . your Le Vian blue topaz killer bracelet on that naked wrist 🙂
oh and I just bought the autobiography written by Jeanne Cooper (Catherine Chancellor on the Young and the Restless) apparently there was a lot of la dee da going on between cast members back in the day! Ive watched that show since the seventies . started watching with my mom. Can’t wait to read it 🙂
