In this video, I answer the question of a reader-Martha, who asked “How do you find out who you are and what you want in the next chapter of your life, once your kids leave the house?” What a great question!! I actually show you how to answer this and any question you might be struggling with, using a technique called “Mind Storming”. Its magical and you will see the power of how your brain can be used to help you sort things out.
Happiness is not something we intuitively know how to create. We think that we are either lucky enough to stumble on it, or we’re not. So when huge transitions happen in our lives, things like a breakup, kids going off to college, a death of someone we love; a job change, loss of a friendship, etc- we can easily find ourselves in a rut or worse, a bout of depression.
It’s important to know how to separate yourself from your current mood. To know that you actually have control over your thoughts, which in turn, means you have control over how your feel.
In this video, I talk about the silent struggle of your kids going off to College, and being single or unhappily coupled when this big transition occurs. I would venture to say that I think a lot of parents may have felt this way, but never shared it with anyone. When my kids were little, I had no idea what it would be like when they went off to College. I had no idea how I’d feel with them living in a totally different state than where I was living. I mean, WTF 😢 I had no idea I’d feel so isolated and alone. That I’d feel such feelings of sadness.
Don’t get me wrong, I was super HAPPY for my children and the idea that they were progressing to the next level in their life. This is exactly what their Father and I had worked so hard for all these years. But when the day came, reality hit. And Hard. I also had some of my own life changes going on. I was newly single. I was in the process of moving out of State to a warmer climate. Life was in full speed ahead mode- Hahahaha. Nothing was going slow, and everything was going super high speed ahead.
